Executive Director, Bluebonnet Data

We’re Building a Winning Progressive Movement — Powered by Data, Built by People

This is a unique opportunity to lead an organization that is recruiting and training the next generation of data-savvy talent in the progressive movement. Bluebonnet began as a small volunteer team in 2018 and has grown into a national nonprofit with a network of 1,200+ people and 500+ progressive campaigns and causes.

Bluebonnet Data is a fully remote nonprofit that recruits, trains, and places data volunteers with campaigns and causes. Our organization is run by a full-time team of ~5 people with occasional part-time, seasonal employees on a total budget of ~$1M. Learn more about our work at BluebonnetData.org.

We’re looking for a visionary individual — someone who sees the opportunity to bring together data, politics, and people to make a positive difference in the U.S. The Executive Director will work directly with an engaged and ambitious team to lead Bluebonnet Data into the next phase of its growth and development. You will be the steward of Bluebonnet’s strategic vision and leader of Bluebonnet’s financial management, fundraising efforts, staff management, partnership development, and more. This is a fully remote, US-based position with intermittent travel requirements for fundraising, networking, and staff retreats.

What does the Executive Director do? Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning

  • The Strategic Plan sets the direction for Bluebonnet going into the next 2 years, 5 years, and beyond. We are in the process of concluding Phase 1 of the Strategic Plan construction process. The new ED will be charged with carrying the Strategic Plan forward as well as adding their vision to the direction set forth.

Financial Management and Fundraising

  • Building relationships with current and prospective donors to help secure a healthy financial future for Bluebonnet.

  • Regular (weekly, monthly, and quarterly) financial analysis and reporting for Bluebonnet.

  • Dynamic thinking about current revenue streams and opportunities for expansion.

Team Management

  • At the start of their tenure, the ED will have at least three direct reports.

  • Bluebonnet has a great team that has worked hard to foster a happy, inclusive workplace. The ED will be responsible for continuing to support them through the coming election cycles, as well as making future decisions about hiring and staff growth.

  • Can curate a strong, happy, remote work environment. Bluebonnet Data strives to be a leader in employee well-being and think creatively about the future of work and the workplace.

Partnerships

  • We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with others and building relationships across sectors and time zones. The Executive Director will create and build partnerships with individuals and organizations across the Progressive ecosystem.

Board Development

  • The ED is responsible for reporting on finance, program initiatives, etc. to the Board of Directors at quarterly meetings and in between.

  • The ED should be prepared to work closely with the Board President on preparing board materials and meetings, preparing materials for committee meetings, and managing the relationship between the organization and its board members.

  • The ED is a non-voting member of the board, and as such is expected to be closely involved in all discussions about the organization’s long-term vision, mission fulfillment, and strategy.
